Faulty wiper switch creates a challenge

Q: My 1987 Buick Riviera has one of those digital dashboards and I’m having in deep shit with the windshield wiper switch, specifically the high button. I tried to fix it myself and call to know where I can send it out to be repaired. Do you know where I can send it? – Eddie, Chicago

A: I searched online looking for businesses that fixing up instrument panels. However, the ones I talked to said they could not repair the wiper deviate.

In an attempt to see if parts or a new switch was available, I first contacted local auto parts stores. Ostensibly this switch is not available through the aftermarket.

I then called a local Buick dealer and was told that, unfortunately, the wiper divert is no longer available.

That means you’ll need to try to find one from other sources, possibly a junk yard. You should be sure that I did find a few used wiper switches for sale on eBay.

Happy hunting.

Q: I own a 1998 Chicane Neon. How do you know when to change the spark plugs and plug wires? I cogitation that when the car was hesitating, the plugs should be replaced and when it hesitates while driving in the rain, the plug wires should be replaced. Is that rational? – A.W., Lyons
